Our Values
Our commitment to excellence drives everything we do as we work to protect and enhance your vision. We believe in maintaining cutting edge technology and high standards to ensure patients receive quality, international-level eye care.
Our Medical and Surgical Centre, based in Paardevlei, Somerset , Cape Town, was originally the vision of a group of like-minded ophthalmologists who pooled resources and skills to create an accessible and affordable surgical and diagnostic eye care centre comparable to the best internationally.
Here, our specialist team now delivers comprehensive, advanced and specialised eye treatments, customised for each patient, with care and compassion.
Our State-of-the-Art Centre
Created to provide a comfortable environment while ensuring the highest standards of medical practice, Somerset Eye Specialist Medical and Surgical Centre features advanced diagnostic equipment and treatment facilities designed specifically for comprehensive eye care.
Our Team
Each ophthalmologist has specialised expertise in various aspects of eye care. Our team of ophthalmologists is among South Africa’s most highly qualified and internationally trained ophthalmic surgeons, renowned for their expertise and adept at advanced treatments and cutting-edge surgical techniques that achieve optimal outcomes for our patients, even in the most complex cases.
Our Partner
Located in the same building in Somerset, Cure Day Hospital is our partner in delivering same-day surgical treatments for eye conditions. As one of eight leading day hospitals nationwide, Cure is dedicated to excellence, efficiency, comfort, and affordability. Together, we provide world-class, affordable day surgery in a state-of-the-art facility – ensuring the best possible care for every patient.
Our mission is to preserve and protect vision, and to restore and enhance sight. To bring this mission to life for as many people in our community as possible, we proudly support the OSSA (Ophthalmology Society of South Africa) Right to Sight initiative. Through this partnership, we provide sight-saving cataract surgeries to patients facing financial hardship. Together, we are committed to ending preventable and curable blindness in South Africa.
A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which is located behind the iris. It usually occurs in later adulthood, and is characterised by a gradual blurring of vision, decreased visual quality and potential vision loss if left untreated.
Currently, there is a backlog of approximately 240,000 untreated cataracts in South Africa!
Along with our partner Cure Day Hospital Somerset West, and medical device companies Vertice, Alcon, Envision, Oculate and Eye Pharma, who sponsored various disposable items and Intra-ocular lenses, and Blaine and Associates who provided anaesthetics, Somerset Eye Centre recently operated on 13 patients during Eye Care Awareness Week, the second week in October each year. It is a highlight among our team’s achievements!
